Essay 1-01a: Letter to Host Family

Hello! My name is Mayu. I’m nineteen years old. I have many hobbies. For example, I like to go shopping very much. I’m interested in fashion, so I buy magazine once a month. I always go shopping after I read the magazines. I often go shopping with my friends. I like to talk with them while we are shopping. I want to go shopping when I visit you. If I have free time, could you go with me? I wear many different styles of fashions, so I want to coordinate them. I want to see many clothes in the world and I will try to wear them. Another one of hobbies is cooking. I’m not quite good at cooking, but I like to cook very much. I try to cook many different styles of food, for example, Western food and Chinese food, Japanese food and so on. I want to study good ways to cook, and I’ll cook for you. What kind of food do you like? I want to talk about it.

I’m working part-time as a clerk in a movie theater. I like to watch movies and I can watch movies for nothing because I’m a clerk there. I often watch foreign movies, but I watch movies with subtitles. I want to be able to watch foreign movies without subtitles. Could you take me to watch movies? I want to go there. I’ll introduce my family to you. I have my father and mother and one old brother. My father is an architect. My mother is a clerk of a hotel. My brother is an architect, too. They work together. We often go on trip together. We recently went to Okinawa. We enjoyed it there. But we have never been abroad. I want to go to a foreign country someday. I hope that I can became past of a real family with you for six weeks.
